Online Doctor Ratings Need to Be Improved

Frequently these days, online doctors are sought in search engines like Google and Bing, for patients who want fast answers and prescriptions online. However, there is a certain measure of care the casual clicker needs to take before he or she places their care in the hands of a virtual stranger.
For one thing, you don’t know how much of the information you get from the Internet is true. Unlike newspapers, the Web does not require “vetting” or verifications of sources, or guarantee the reliability of information it provides. It is simply a tool for anyone to get his or her message out in the world and read, whether or not it is factually correct or not.

The potential patient needs to use common sense, and know that as of now, online doctor ratings need to be improved. Not only the system of rating the online doctors, but sometimes the doctors themselves. It seems like there are too many online doctors who are simply not qualified, or whose only recommendations come from “anonymous” reviewers, which is of no help to a potential patient.
To start with, online doctors should encourage their patients to leave comments on their website, and perhaps implement an online ranking system for Likes and Dislikes. This way, patients can give real-life testimonials or suggest areas of improvement, only after they have registered on the site and can give some sort of proof that they are indeed real patients of the online doctor. Anonymous comments and reviews must be prohibited. For all the prospective patient knows, a favorable review might have been written by the online doctor himself.

Doctors who issue online prescription can establish the same sort of ranking system, and make improvements where needed. Consider too that most patients or online shoppers leave positive messages when asked their opinions; you might just come out of this with some testimonials that you can truthfully place on your website.

Remember too to exercise good judgment and common sense when choosing an online doctor or opting for an online prescription. Word-of-mouth is and has always been a reliable indicator of the trustworthiness of a product, person or service, and that’s not necessarily available online. You might get opinions, yes, but they are the opinions of total strangers. This is not like picking a car wash or a beautician; it’s your health and it is serious. Take the time to find a site that seems to have verifiable testimonials and high rankings from a number of patients, not just one or two. Ask you family and friends if they have a recommendation or if they know of someone who does use the service of online doctors or gets online prescriptions. Take some times and do research on the doctor, Google the names and find out if they are licensed and in what country. Use your instincts and let them guide you as to your many online choices, and remember: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
