Too Few Patients Receive Shingles Vaccine Due to High Cost

If you’ve ever had Shingles you know about the searing pain, the burning sensation and the loss of sleep. Shingles isn’t an easy illness to live with and it can last months before the pain goes away.

Shingles results from the reactivation of chicken pox, which stays in the body after contracting it as a child. Almost a third of adults who have had chicken pox will develop Shingles, resulting in anywhere from a week to several years of pain. Shingles affect older patients, whose immune systems are weaker than younger people. When the rash appears the treatment options become incredible limited. Online doctors offer some relief for people who get the shingles. You can get a prescription from a doctor online to deal with some of the more common problems.

The scary thing is that Shingles could happen to any of us, at any time. In 2006, the FDA approved a vaccine against Shingles. Online physician’s results showed that the vaccine had little side effects, while reducing the risk of developing Shingles by as much as half.

But, this has done little to deter Shingles due to high cost associated with the vaccine. Some doctors online noted that half of them recommended the vaccine to their patients. The vaccine cost online doctors as much as 10 times the normal cost of a vaccine, making the purchase and storage of the vaccine cost prohibited. The vaccine remains an incredible burden for some patients, even those with insurance and Medicare, because the vaccine is not fully reimbursed. And a lot of private insurance groups require the patient to pay out of pocket first, and then apply for reimbursement of the vaccine. Since the Shingles vaccine is more commonly given to seniors as an online prescription drug, patients on Medicare must also pay out of pocket first and apply for reimbursement.
Some doctors online and prescription online services have stopped carrying the vaccine due to lost money from storage and the lack of patient interest in the vaccine.

But, that’s not to say that online doctors do not offer other relief. Many prescription online services write prescriptions for the associated symptoms of Shingles. Online doctors write prescriptions for inflammation relief, narcotics for pain relief and antiviral medication that has shown promise in treating Shingles outbreak.

It’s highly recommended that older Americans get the Shingles vaccine, but some cannot afford to pay out of pocket for such as expensive prescription. Through the internet they can find relief from prescription online services offering pain relief for the burning sensation and antiviral medicines to slowly remove the virus. But, the pain can last for months, which is where the inflammation medication comes in. If you have Shingles and cannot afford the vaccine then ask your online doctor about controlling the pain associated with Shingles.

It’s a tough disease to live with so explore every avenue of treatment.
