There are a total of 23.6 million children and adults diagnosed with diabetes in the United States. There is a total of 1.6 million new cases of diabetes diagnosed in people age 20 years or older.  About one in every 400 ro 600 children and adolescents has type 1 diabetes. 2 Million adolescents aged 12-19 have pre-diabetes.  Here are some facts about diabetes. 

1.)  Diabetes is a silent epidemic and according to the WHO there are 246 million people living with diabetes.

2.)  Diabetes in Asians is five times the rate of white people.

3.)  India is the diabetes capital of the world.  There are approximately 40 million people with diabetes in India.

4.)  It is estimated that 3.2 million people in the worl die  due to the diabetes or its related causes.

5.)  Almost 90 to 95% of diabetes is of type 2 also known as aduld onset diabetes.

6.)  The major cause of the onset of diabetes is a sedentary lifestyle. Can be controlled with diet and exercise.

7.)  Diabetes is the number one cause of kidney failure in the world.

8.)  The current cost of treating diabetes and its complications in the world is between US $215-375 billion.
