Where Do Germs Hide?

Posted 07-22-2009 11:29 pm by
No one likes germs. Face it, the reasons behind all of the scrubbing and disinfectants are the threat of bad germs that will get you or your families ill

germsThere are many commonly thought of hiding spots for germs such as children’s toys, bathrooms, counters, floors, pets, etc. However, there are many more uncommonly thought of places for germs to hide. Amongst the worst places for germs are restaurant bottles such as ketchup or mustard, who knows who has touched, coughed, sneezed, or put their mouth directly on these bottles for everyone else to use?

Other uncommonly thought of places for germs to hide are cell phones, soap dispensers, vacuums, garbage cans and disposals, welcome mats, door handles (even on appliances such as fridges and microwaves), key boards and worst yet, faucets both in your home and especially in public places.  Each of these locations listed are everyday items or are used on a daily basis by many people and are generally exposed to others if not used by them.

All of this exposure and use makes these objects the prime target for germs. Because these places aren’t typically considered germ-infested, they are rarely disinfected.

Next time you pick up your cell phone, or touch the door handle of your refrigerator, make a mental note to yourself that everything a lot of people touch could stand to be disinfected once in awhile. Instead of chemicals, try white vinegar mixed with water and a couple drops of lemon juice, which works wonders as a disinfectant.
