The fall is here, and winter is fast approaching. We all know that with the change of seasons, and all of the time we spend indoors, coming down with the cold or flu is a likely occurrence.

Contracting an illness is obviously easier to do when at work or school, so it is at these two places where you must take the most precautions for maintaining your health during the cold and flu season. Here are five ways to help you stay healthy at work and/or school:

1.) Always have a bottle of hand sanitizer with you. Use it throughout the day in order to keep you free from germs. Don’t overdo it though – hand sanitizers can be very drying. With that, it’s a good idea to keep a bottle of hand lotion nearby or purchase an antibacterial moisturizing hand lotion.

2.)  Avoid elevators or closed spaces if possible. Take the stairs if you must! It’s also a great way to burn calories and keep you toned, especially if you are sitting at a desk all day.

3.)  Pay mind to your nutrition. Eat a healthy lunch, and keep nutritious snacks with you at all times – to avoid the midday urge for chips, candy or soda – staple items available in office break rooms. Granola, fruit, nuts, and raw veggies are some great snacks to keep on hand.

4.) Make, or support a work/school policy for others NOT to come to work when they are sick and contagious.

5.) Stay positive! Studies show that stress and anxiety are big triggers for illness, in that they cause physical symptoms that can lead to illness. Turn any negative thoughts into positive ones – this can go a long way with keeping you mentally and physically fit.
