In the United State an estimated 11.5 percent of adults ages 20 or older (23 million adults) have physiological evidence of chronic kidney disease determined from data collected through the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. 

In 2006 506,256 U.S. residents suffered kidney disease resulting from the following diseases:

Diabetes: 188,381, Hypertension 122,339, Glomerulonephritis 80,164, Cystic Kidney 23,685, Urologic Disease 13,371, all others 78,316

1. The incidence of kidney failure has doubled in the last 15 years.
2. It is estimated that currently there are over 1 million people worldwide on dialysis
3. Diabetes is the common cause of kidney failure.
4. Almost 66% kidney failure occurs due to hypertension or diabetes.
5. It is estimated that there are between 11 to 30 million people with chronic kidney disease in the U.S.
6. In the U.S. it is estimated that the cost of treating patients for kidney disease will be US $28 billion dollars
