Will Your Online Doctor Make Your Neighborhood Doctor Obsolete?

Posted 03-14-2009 3:33 am by
Imagine if you could avoid all the hassles of physically going to your family doctor while still getting the help you need within hours, simply by logging onto your computer with Internet access.

Seem like something out of sci- fi movie like Logan’s Run or 2001 Space Odyssey? Well it’s not. Today the world has the technological advances to provide the average consumer with an Online Doctor who is caring, confidential, certified, knowledgeable and accessible, without ever having to leave your home or office. The reality is that getting an online doctor consultation and prescription is far easier than you probably think. With the introduction of the Internet and the widespread acceptance of the technology over the last decade, ways that people approach things were bound to change, with Healthcare being one of them.

We all know the hassles of having to go to your typical doctor’s ‘visit’ for a simple acute condition. First, you have to call the office to make an appointment. Hopefully you call before 11:30 or after 2:00 as the typical doctor’s office needs to take really long lunches during which you get an answering machine. Next, you have to explain to the person on the phone what your complaint or symptoms are. Then you have to work your schedule around the doctor’s busy appointment book. Once you actually get an appointment, chances are that you will need to re-arrange your schedule, get a sitter or take time off of work. Three or four weeks later, you actually arrive at the day of your appointment. Let’s hope that your symptoms or conditions haven’t worsened.

You arrive at the doctor’s office to find a multitude of other ‘sick’ folks packed into the waiting room. You sign in and see the list of patient’s before you and know it is going to be an all day event. The receptionist may hand you the latest stack of forms that must be filled out because of new practice policies, HIPAA laws, etc. Once you have finished filling out the forms, 20 minutes have gone by, so you take a peek at the magazines (all the while covering your nose and mouth to avoid catching anything that you may be exposed to from the other patients). Other than a Golfing magazine and a Child’s Highlight publication, the selection is horrible. It’s now been 35 minutes. You finally get called by the nurse to go into the exam room. He/She politely asks why you have come to see the doctor (even though you have explained it to the person on the phone that made the appointment). The nurse then administers some basic tests and promises that the doctor will see you shortly. Depending on your symptoms and complaints, the nurse may ask you to disrobe and adorn yourself with a smock-like garment that throws all modesty out the window. After sitting on the uncomfortable exam table with the crunchy strip of sanitary white paper for another 20 to 30 minutes, your doctor finally comes in. He asks you the same questions that the appointment person and the nurse have already asked you. Usually the doctor will then confirm what you already knew. “I think I have a sinus infection.” “I think I have Athlete’s Foot”. “I believe I may need a prescription for Viagra.”, etc., The doctor writes you a prescription that you then have to drive over to the pharmacy and then wait another 45 minutes until the prescription is ready. Why go through all of these hassles when you can easily obtain an online doctor consultation and prescription instead?

Now compare that to the process involved with consulting with an Online Doctor:
1.You log into your computer and browse to a site like KoolDocs.com.
2.You fill out a brief form describing why you are seeking an Online Doctor.
3.You wait (in the comfort of your home or office wearing whatever smock you like) for a response by an Online Doctor.
4.The Online Doctor discusses your symptoms and possible treatments with you.
5.Your Online Doctor calls in a prescription to your local pharmacy and makes other important recommendations.

Imagine that - getting an online doctor consultation and prescription really is the easier choice!
