Pain Management and Prescriptions

Posted 08-28-2009 10:01 pm by
When used properly, prescription pain medications are very beneficial. These prescription pain medications allow people with serious or chronic soreness, stiffness, arthritis, etc., to live their life as normally as possible by controlling their symptoms and pain levels.

PillsToday though, more and more people are misusing and abusing not only their own prescriptions, but other peoples’, often times selling these drugs or using them for more than they were prescribed.

These pain medications are drugs, meaning they are harmful to your body when not used in a way in which they were intended to be used and that is by the prescription recipient only and only in the proper dosages.

Just because one is in pain and someone he or she knows has prescribed pain medication with them or in a cabinet, that person should not assume that he or she can or should take the medication. This prescription was specifically made for whoever it was made for with all sorts of health factors in mind as well as dosage amounts, etc.  One should not follow the dosage on the bottle nor should one take the medication in the first place, as it is both illegal and harmful.

Prescription drug abuse has become a major epidemic. A new study shows that over 15 million people have admitted to abusing prescription drugs. These drugs are not only harmful to one’s body, but can create an addiction and a dependency for your body to need the drugs. P

Prescription drugs should only be taken as prescribed by your doctor, not someone else’s. This is the only way to properly handle prescription pain killers or drugs at all.  If you or someone you know has a dependency on prescription drugs, please refer to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)’s website at http://www.nida.nih.gov.
