Everyone thinks of popcorn as a great accompaniment to a big game or movie, it’s delicious, a finger food, and easy to eat, so why not? Well, new studies out are showing that popcorn is not just a great treat, but should be a part of a well balanced diet because it contains many important nutrients and other health benefits!
Popcorn has more iron in it than eggs, some fish, and milk! Iron is very important to any diet, but especially to women, so don’t feel guilty when having some popcorn, think of it as a health food.
Popcorn also contains many vitamins essential to a good diet, thiamine, riboflavin; all of the vitamin B complex vitamins and niacin are all found in each bite of popcorn that you take. No one’s body naturally has all of the proper vitamins that it needs. In fact, human bodies do not produce vitamins, and therefore intake is essential, so why not do it with a fun food?
Popcorn is also very high in calcium. Calcium is very important to maintain bone health and density, and by no means is popcorn a direct substitute for a glass of milk, but it is a nice supplement that will aid your body. Not only does popcorn provide your body with vitamins, calcium, iron and fiber (because it’s a whole grain fiber), popcorn provides a lot of protein to the body. All of these great health benefits come with a measly 25-55 calories per cup, depending on the butter situation.
