Sore Throat

A sore throat is not a disease but rather a symptom associated with a variety of ailments such as a cold. If you have a sore throat, you may want to contact your physician for a proper diagnosis and treatment for the underlying illness. In addition, the Mayo Clinic recommends a variety of sore throat treatments to help ease the pain and discomfort associated with the condition.

  • Drink plenty of fluids, double your intake when possible to help clear mucous.
  • Mix ½ tsp. of salt in a glass of warm water. Gargle the water and spit it out to clear the throat of mucous.
  • Suck on hard candy or throat lozenge to help stimulate saliva production that will help clear the throat.
  • Mix lemon and honey in a glass of hot water. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature and drink it to help sooth the throat.
  • To prevent mucous membranes from drying out, humidify the air with a room humidifier. Change the water frequently to ensure mold or bacteria does not grow in the water.
  • A sore throat can lead to laryngitis so rest your voice as much as possible to avoid temporary loss of voice.
  • Avoid air pollutants and smoke because they can irritate a sore throat.
  • When possible, take time off work or school to avoid infecting others with the sickness that is causing your sore throat. A QuickRxRefills.com can provide you with a written excuse.
